Homemade Avengers

Recently Target commissioned the Wieden + Kennedy Advertising Agency to symbolize The Avengers using regular goods and products (that can all be found, where else, Target) and these awesome recreations of iconic Avengers items are what came of it. Take a look at Guy Seese's portfolio page (via Behance) to see some up close shots of all of these (Guy served as 1 of 2 creative directors on the campaign). Who knew Dr. Pepper cans could be so useful? And I so call dibbs on that hammer, it must be mine!

Peep this Cosplay: C2E2 Edition

For whatever reason the lyrics "our house, in the middle of our street, our house" just popped into my head....weird...

Every convention brings with it some awesome (and not so awesome) demonstrations of cosplay, so here is a roundup of my faves from this year's C2E2.

Love this! Nice job on the costume, and I'm glad that the character seems to gaining popularity in the cosplay space.

this guy gets buku points for creativity. You don't see many sandman costumes at con

this girl gets buku points because, well, just because. I'm a bit bias here, mostly because this is one of my favorite versions of the costume. Plus, lets not kid ourselves, she works it well.

the only version of scarecrow that actually ever creeped me out. I still absolutely love the idea of the syringe hands. Nice work.

just a really cute classic version of batgirl.

This kind of looks like the lovechild of Mr.T and Lenny Kravitz, no?

what makes this picture is the smush faced lady toad in the background. Plus, who knew ellen was a member of the fantastic four? (love the way the flame was handled btw)

1. Awesome to actually see a Hugo Strange costume. 2. Horse Heads are sort of creepy but still rule.

That's one of the best Hawkeye costumes I've seen period, bravo! Oh, and there's a babydoll in this photo too, but Ms. Hawkeye steals the show.

1.Apes are awesome. 2. That is all

Avengers Blowout

Whatup peeps! As you've probably noticed, there's been alot of Avengers related stuff released today, so being the ultra considerate person I am I decided to post all of those in one place. First we've got the just released preview clip from the film featuring Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). The clip's pretty lighthearted ,especially for an interrogation scene, and gives us a look at the humor found between (and sometimes in) the action scenes. Peep the clip below and let us know what you think.

Marvel also released some new wallpapers (in conjunction with Wyndham Hotels ). I'm going to be a total guy here and just state it now: The Avengers is going to be the movie in which I completely crush on Colbie Smulders as Maria Hill. I love the character of Hill in the books, and Smulders looks exactly like her. Plus, I love short hair, so BONUS! I've included some of my favorites below (and above), but you can find the rest of the team's pics here (thanks to Geektyrant for the images)

You also might have noticed a really cool Lego version of the movie poster making the rounds this week, but in case you missed it, here you go. I don't even think it needs to be said how cool this is (and they freaking nailed Tony's (and Downey's) likeness. Just awesome.

Last but not least, I always like to feature some of the great artists you can find on DeviantArt, so here are some amazing Avengers themed art. Make sure to head to their pages and let them know you like their work!

The Cosplay of Wondercon

Normally after every major con I post a best of from the many, many costumes that adorn the show floor. So without further ado, here are my faves:

WOOT!!! Nice to see some Soranik Natu love

a nice female Green Arrow. A little comic version, a little smallville. I like it.

Okay, this would be hard not to pick as my favorite. Love the detail in the Cap armor, including the retro boots, and the Bucky is just about perfect. This is my star of the show.

switching gears a bit, this is just adorable. I mean c'mon, its freaking Charlie Brown! (and a damn good version of him at that).

I absolutely love that rogue costume. Just awesome.

nice to see Oracle getting some cosplay love (love the mask btw)

if the Cap and Bucky pairing hadn't been so good, this would've topped my list. There are a million jokers at every con, but this one really nailed the details, and the face is classic joker.

lastly we have a rare cable sighting, and if you're going to do a cable cosplay, then you have to have a big gun, and this guy took the time to make one (I'm sure there's a that's what she said somewhere in there

Ollie Queen gets his due in Arrow

via the CW and some of the people responsible for Smallville. While there's not much officially out other than the shot above, we can still get a feel for the show from its description:

ARROW pilot director/executive producer David Nutter said: “When I directed the pilot for Smallville, I knew that making Clark Kent relatable would be the key to audiences believing in him as a hero. ARROW is a different show — darker and harder-edged — but it’s the same core idea. We’re creating a real, believable world in which Oliver Queen can do incredible things. Colleen Atwood’s great work on the Arrow costume reflects that effort.

ARROW is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter, who is directing, from a teleplay by Kreisberg & Guggenheim, story by Berlanti & Guggenheim. Melissa Kellner Berman is co-executive producer.

Look, I unabashadly loved Smallville, and was very happy with its rendition of Ollie, but I'm glad that they decided to go with a slightly edgier take this time around. Green Arrow is basically Robin Hood, just set in a modern environment, so here's hoping that they can infuse some humor & adventure into this version. Playing Ollie this time around will be actor Stephen Amell, who's starred in a long list of TV shows, but nothing really related to the superhero genre. In addition, which the post on DC Entertainment really makes a point in highlighting, the costume was designed by 3 time Oscar Winning Costume Designer Colleen Atwood. I always loved the hooded look in the books, so I'm glad to see that's the direction they went here. If any other info comes out, I'll let ya know. In the meantime, are you excited to see how this turns out? Let us know.
